Website Evaluation - Education World

The website I chose to evaluate is www.educationworld.com. This website was created in 1996 to help educators use the Internet more easily.
Overall, it is an excellent, free resource for teachers looking to integrate technology into the classroom. It has been labeled as one of the best sites for educators by Microsoft, MSN and Lycos, and was determined to be a "Best Bet for Educators” by USA Today. It provides much needed, up-to-date information from many different experts in education.
On my first visit to the site, I was a little overwhelmed by all of the information that was there. Luckily, there is a “Site Guide” link listed under the “Help Features” that will guide you where you need to go. There are sections for lesson planning, professional development, technology integration, early childhood, subject resources, and much more.
My main purpose in visiting the site was to seek information on how I could better integrate technology in my classroom; therefore, I spent most of my time looking over the section called “Technology Integration.” This section alone could be its own website. The “Sites to See” link in this area provided almost 100 alphabetized links to various topics including iPod Resources, Online Collaborative Projects, Podcasting, Social Bookmarking, WebQuests and Wikis. Another link I found helpful in this area of the site was the “Techtorial” link. This section provided brief (15-20 minute) tutorials on using technology in the classroom – exactly what I was looking for. Each week, new Techtorials are provided that deal with topics related to software application, Internet use, computer maintenance and much more. Best of all, these Techtorials are geared toward the beginner or reluctant computer user. All educators, especially those that are new to technology could benefit from visiting this site. The information it provides is invaluable. The only negative aspect I found was the amount of time I ended up spending on the site. There is so much information that you really have to narrow down what you are looking for or you can easily spend hours there.
I would definitely recommend this site to all educators looking for new ways to teach and integrate technology in the classroom.
